How-to
Manage MFA¶
Every Breqwatr Cloud account uses multi-factor authentication (MFA): a code from an authenticator app at every sign-in, with recovery codes for when you can't use the app. This page covers recovery codes, and what to do if you lose your authenticator.
You set up MFA the first time you sign in: see Your account and MFA. An authenticator app is the only method. MFA is required, so it can't be turned off.
Before you start¶
- A signed-in account.
Check your recovery codes¶
When you set up MFA, the portal shows ten recovery codes, once. It keeps only a hash of each, so no one, Breqwatr support included, can show them to you again.
To see how many you have left, open the account menu at the top right of the Breqwatr Cloud Portal (Strata), choose My Account, and find Two-factor authentication. It shows "Two-factor authentication is enabled." and the number of recovery codes remaining.
Sign in with a recovery code¶
When the portal asks for a code at sign-in, enter a recovery code in place of the six-digit code. Each recovery code works once: a code you've used is refused.
If you lose your authenticator¶
- You still have recovery codes: sign in with one. Then raise a support ticket to set up MFA on your new device, and keep the remaining codes until you have.
- You've lost the app and the recovery codes: raise a support ticket. The sign-in page links to support under "Lost your authenticator and all recovery codes?".
For either, see Raise a support ticket. Support can remove the MFA requirement on your account so you can sign in, and you then set up MFA again, with a new set of recovery codes.
Raise a ticket too when your recovery codes run out: the portal can't make a new set while MFA is required.
Check it worked¶
- My Account → Two-factor authentication shows "Two-factor authentication is enabled." and how many recovery codes remain.
- Signing in asks for a code after your password.
