Quotas and limits

The quotas that cap what a project can run in each region, their defaults, how to read them and ask for more, and the other limits in the Breqwatr Cloud Portal (Strata).

Each project has its own quota in each region: a project's quota in ca-central and its quota in ca-east are separate, and raising one doesn't change the other. A request that would go over the quota is refused. A quota is a ceiling, not a charge: see Quotas and your bill.

Project quotas

Resource Default for a new project, in each region Counts CLI name
Memory 64 GB The RAM of the project's instances ram, in MB
Storage 500 GB The size of every volume and volume snapshot gigabytes
Instances 10 Instances instances
vCPUs 20 The vCPUs of the project's instances cores
Floating IPs 5 Floating IPs allocated to the project, attached or not floating_ips

Every instance boots from a volume, so its boot volume counts against storage as well.

Read the quota

In the portal, open the project and choose Quota. Current usage shows each resource as used against its limit, with what's left, for the region selected in the top bar. Anyone who can see the project can read it.

With the CLI, --usage shows each limit and what's in use:

openstack --os-cloud <cloud-name> quota show --usage

Add --os-region-name ca-east for the other region. A limit of -1 means no limit. The CLI also lists quotas the portal doesn't show, such as networks, security groups and ports.

Request an increase

Only the organisation's owner and admins can request an increase. Others see "Only your organisation owner or admin can request a quota increase."

  1. On the project's Quota page, choose Request increase. The form shows the region it applies to.
  2. For each resource you need more of, enter how much to Add. The form shows the Current limit, what's In use and the New limit. Leave the other resources blank.
  3. Enter a Reason, which is required, and choose Submit request.

A project can have one open request in each region at a time. Request history lists the project's requests with their region, status and what was asked for. A new request waits for Breqwatr to review it, then moves to one of these:

Status Meaning
Needs info Breqwatr has asked for more detail, in a Note from support. Edit the request and choose Resubmit request
Approved The limit is raised. Current usage shows the new limit
Rejected Not raised. The note gives the reason. Submit a new request if things change

Other limits
