Regions and endpoints¶
The regions on Breqwatr Cloud, the addresses you sign in and connect to, and how to read the endpoint for each service.
Regions¶
| Region | Location | Notes |
|---|---|---|
ca-central |
Ontario | The default region |
ca-east |
Quebec |
The two regions are independent failure domains: a failure in one doesn't take down the other. They offer the same services, flavours and images. Each region runs its own instances, volumes and networks, a resource created in one region stays there, and each project has its own quota in each region.
Endpoints¶
| What | Address | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Breqwatr Cloud Portal (Strata) | https://dashboard.breqwatr.cloud |
Sign up at https://dashboard.breqwatr.cloud/users/sign_up |
Identity (auth_url) |
https://auth.breqwatr.cloud:5000/v3 |
Shared by both regions. Identity API v3, on port 5000 |
| Every other service | In the service catalogue | Read it with openstack catalog list, below |
One application credential works in both regions. The clouds.yaml the portal gives you sets auth_url to the identity endpoint and region_name to ca-central.
Some Breqwatr Cloud deployments run in a single region. For those, the region name and the identity endpoint are the ones in the clouds.yaml from that deployment's portal.
Read the service catalogue¶
After you sign in, the identity service returns a catalogue: the endpoint for each service in each region. The tools read it for you, so you rarely need an address other than auth_url. To see it:
openstack --os-cloud <cloud-name> catalog list
openstack --os-cloud <cloud-name> catalog show compute
openstack --os-cloud <cloud-name> --os-region-name ca-east catalog show compute
catalog list shows each service's name, type and endpoints. catalog show shows one service, by its type. APIs and tools lists the service types.
Choose a region¶
| Tool | How |
|---|---|
| Breqwatr Cloud Portal | The region switcher next to the project name in the top bar |
| OpenStack CLI | region_name in clouds.yaml, or --os-region-name on a command |
| OpenTofu and Ansible | region_name in the clouds.yaml entry named by OS_CLOUD |
Environment variables (openrc.sh) |
OS_REGION_NAME |
